Project Description

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is recognized as an integral element of SDG4 and a key enabler of all other SDGs. With this online and dynamic session we envision to advocate for this educational shift worldwide towards learning-centered, active pedagogies, such as Project Based Learning (PBL) and to use active pedagogies to equip young people with the competencies to achieve the global challenges represented by the SDG. In a context of pandemic recovery, this learning approach ensures that no student is left behind by encouraging inclusivity and diversity, a cornerstone for the achievement of SDG4.

Next Tuesday, July 5 at 19:00 (Barcelona) and 13:00 (New York) CATESCO, together with The Buck Institute for Education and UPF University, organizes a Side Event in the framework of the United Nations High Political Forum of 2022. This is called PBL4SDG: Action-oriented education for the SDGs.

In this session, you will learn about High Quality Project Based Learning (HQPBL), a framework describing student experiences that make a project high quality, created in 2018 by a committee of over 100 international thought leaders.

We will showcase current real examples directly by students and teachers about their PBL experiences oriented to SDGs, characterized by the six HQPBL criteria (1.Intellectual Challenge and Accomplishment, 2.Authenticity, 3.Collaboration, 4.Project Management, 5.Reflection, and 6.Public Product), and that have implemented these projects for real in the framework of the Catalan initiative that we are presenting. Furthermore, we will promote an ongoing feedback of several experts during the project’s presentations to build-up the framework embracing the PBL4SDGs and the development of the sustainable competencies of UNESCO.
